Ah, so clear! I recently learned more about the difference between AI answer search and what we've been used to with a question search (Google it).

To your point, that changes the role of the website. It's no longer just something people browse. It's increasingly one of the primary sources AI uses to understand and explain your organization which means its now a part of your organization's case for support.

That's right, the shifts you reference are important to unpack. The question is no longer just, “Can someone find us?” It’s increasingly, “What does AI say when someone asks about us?” For organizations seeking major grants, this matters because the digital footprint does a lot of work to inform stealth funders' due diligence.

Thank you, Susan. That’s exactly the gap I’m interested in. Helping organisations make their impact clearer, easier to evidence, and easier for others to understand without having to dig for it.

Loved this take on building something that lasts. It made me think about how nonprofits build trust before making major financial decisions. We wrote about that here: https://thesemblereview.substack.com/p/building-trust-before-building-spaces?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Thank you, I love the connection to trust! That’s really the thread underneath this piece. Major funders are accumulating a variety of signals, and the online resource is one of them.

This is a great and appreciated read! It confirms curiosities I've had about our website. I will be sharing this article with my administrative and fundraising team and my Board members. Thank you for this!

Thank you, I hope it sparks some good conversations. It's a revealing exercise to look at a website through a funder's eyes rather than through an organizational lens. I'd love to hear what your team discovers after taking that fresh look.

Agreed. I have a Board meeting coming up next Monday. That may be an interesting conversation.

Such a valuable reminder that impact communication starts long before the proposal.

I’m building Impact Metrix, and one issue I keep noticing is that organisations may be creating meaningful change but make visitors work far too hard to understand it. Clear outcomes, evidence and future ambitions should be visible where funders are already looking, not hidden several clicks into an annual report.

“[O]rganisations may be creating meaningful change but make visitors work far too hard to understand it.” Beautifully said, Brenda. That sentiment does apply to most websites—and goes far beyond.
